Amalgam separators play an essential role in keeping humans, animals and the environment safe from the adverse effects of mercury. Separators help prevent the mercury-containing amalgam waste that dentists remove from cavity fillings from entering the public sewer system. It is estimated that dental offices are responsible for approximately 50% of the mercury waste received by publicly owned treatment works. Fortunately, amalgam separators are a low-cost and low-maintenance solution that allows dentists to eliminate 99% of their solid mercury waste. Separators are easy to install and only require a replacement canister once it’s full or around every 6-12 months
